Application Process

New Applicant

In order to be considered for an NMC scholarship, students must show financial need and be nominated by their school counselor. Upon nomination, eligible students will be emailed a link by their counselor which will grant them access to the application page.

Deadline for final application submission is April 15

  1. Copy of FAFSA Submission Summary and Student Aid Index (SAI).
  2. Letter of recommendation from a person other than your school counselor who can give an evaluation of your character, ability, and capacity for continuing development.
  3. Proof of U.S. citizenship* (current U.S. Passport, Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization Certificate). * A driver’s license, social security card, or hospital certificate is not acceptable as proof of citizenship.
  4. Recent picture (solo; no group pictures).

Renewal Process

(a) Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point, or equivalent.
(b) Attend a college or university in the state of Washington on a full-time basis.
(c) Major in a subject other than music or art.
(d) Maintain a high standard of conduct and still require financial assistance; and
(e) In the opinion of the Committee, merit a renewal of his or her scholarship.

FAQs

To be eligible, first-time applicants must be:

(a) A graduating senior of a public high school in King, Pierce or Snohomish County in the year of the appointment/nomination.
(b) An American citizen.
(c) Planned enrollment in a college or university in the state of Washington on a full-time basis.

Carman Scholars who are renewing scholarships must:

(a) Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point, or equivalent.
(b) Attend a college or university in the state of Washington on a full-time basis.
(c) Maintain a high standard of conduct and still require financial assistance; and
(d) In the opinion of the Committee, merit a renewal of his or her scholarship.

Applicants must attend a college or university in the state of Washington. A Carman Scholarship for both new and current Carman Scholars is tenable only for a course of study having, as its major subject, courses other than music, sculpture, painting, drawing, interior decorating or domestic science.

Carman Scholars who are renewing scholarships must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point, or equivalent. Scholars are also required to be enrolled on a full-time basis.

The application process begins in January of each year. Applicants must be nominated by school counselors in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Only one nominee is allowed per school (unless the graduation class exceeds 400, in which case a second candidate may be nominated). A link will be emailed to nominated students which will grant them access to the application page.

Scholarship checks are awarded at the banquet. They are written directly to you and may be used towards tuition and/or other fees associated with your education. If you are unable to attend the banquet, your scholarship check may also be sent to you by mail.
